Description
Color photograph of an abstract marble relief sculpture featuring a reclining lion, running horse, sitting fox, two birds, and a snake, installed outdoors against a red brick building. The photograph presents "The Story Wall" (1991) by sculptor Carole Hanson, located at Monmouth Middle School in Monmouth, Maine. The sculpture consists of a large, rectangular Vermont marble panel set on a concrete and granite cobblestone base. The surface is carved with stylized images from Aesop's Fables: a lion lies on the left side, a horse leaps through the center, and a fox sits near the bottom right. Two birds, one in flight and one perched, appear near the top and middle of the panel, while a snake is coiled in the lower right corner. Six circular holes are incorporated into the relief, creating visual interest and depth. Green grass surrounds the base, and the building's windows and entrance are visible in the background. 1994. Unidentified photographer. (See p16924-p16937, p16948-p16952)(NA4800.)
