Description
Black and white photograph of the Firemen's Memorial by Edward Souther Griffin outside the Portland Central Fire Station in Portland, Maine. This image presents a low-angle view of a full-length firefighter statue, emphasizing the figure's Victorian fire uniform, including a long coat, hat, and mustache. The firefighter firmly holds a fire hose with both hands, his proper left gripping the nozzle, standing atop a substantial decorative stone base. The inscription, "P.F.D.," is clearly visible on the base, which features both polished and unpolished finishes and scallop-shaped decorations on top. The photograph focuses on the statue and base details, offering little background context or landscape. 1994. Unidentified photographer. (See p16878-p16884)(NA4800.)
