Description
Color photograph of "School Bell," a sculpture by Dale Thomas, a metalworker and sculptor from Brooks, Maine. The image shows Thomas standing beside a tall, black metal structure composed of three stacked bell shapes housed within circular frames, arranged vertically. The sculpture stands on a flat metal base in an open grassy field with trees and some rural structures in the background. Each bell has a shaped metal wind catcher. The bottom and largest bell has a circular wind catcher. The middle bell has a triangle-shaped wind catcher. This bell is topped with a rooster from the top of a weather vane. The top and smallest bell has a wind catcher from metal cut in the shape of the state of Maine. At the very top of the sculpture, the finial features a small figure seated atop an armillary sphere, reading a book. Dale Thomas, dressed in a blue denim jacket and cap, stands beside the sculpture, providing a sense of scale for the piece. 1994. Unidentified photographer. (See p16889-p16908)(NA4800.)
