Description
Color photograph of a spider sculpture by Dale Thomas, a metalworker and sculptor from Brooks, Maine. The image features a large, whimsical spider sculpture placed in a grassy, rural landscape. The body of the spider is made from a painted metal tank, and it has eight long, angled legs crafted from black metal pipes mounted on wheel rims that have been painted black. The spider is set on a gentle slope, with scattered outbuildings, brush piles, and a backdrop of leafless trees and a red-roofed structure. Though the sculpture appears static, the metal tank includes a depression for a seat as well as a seat belt. This industrial and playful artwork stands out against its natural surroundings, emphasizing both scale and imaginative use of repurposed materials. 1994. Unidentified photographer.
