Abstract

This poem is born of the author's experiences as member of a revitalization movement for a language to which he is not ancestrally connected. Because time spent with a language is such an intimate relationship, one cannot expect to remain unchanged by the encounter. But absent the more common pairing of language and ethnicity, what is the nature of the connection that remains?
