Description
Black and white photograph of a person standing in front of a large, outdoor war memorial composed of three triangular concrete and steel walls, one of which features a cut-out silhouette of two soldiers supporting a wounded soldier. The photograph shows a view of the "Vietnam Veterans Memorial" by Roger Richmond, 1985, located in Capitol Park, Augusta, Maine. The three adjacent triangular forms fill most of the frame, with leafless trees and a few evergreens in the background. The first triangle in the foreground is a low concrete wall that slopes upward from left to right, leading the viewer’s eye toward the central, taller triangle of Cor-Ten steel, which prominently displays the cut-out silhouettes of two soldiers supporting a wounded soldier. Behind this steel section stands a third concrete triangle that functions as a reflector, aligned so that light passing through the cut-out figures casts an image of the soldiers onto its surface. A person dressed in casual clothing stands to the right, facing the memorial and providing a sense of scale to the sculpture. 1994. Unidentified, photographer. (See p17094-p17103)(NA4800.)
