Description
Color photograph of two people walking along a paved campus path flanked by white concrete walls and grassy slopes between brick buildings and evergreen trees. The photograph depicts “Walls,” an architectural landscape installation at the University of Maine System Office of Facilities in Presque Isle, Maine, viewed from a slightly elevated position behind a low brick entry wall. A dark, wet asphalt path leads straight into the middle distance, where two people walk side by side toward a stand of evergreen trees and additional campus buildings. On either side of the path, six white concrete walls of varying lengths project from grassy earth forms, creating triangular embankments that step down the slope and give structure to the open lawn areas. The landscape materials include earth and structural fill shaped into gentle mounds, covered with loam and grass, and bordered by a wood-edged strip along the base of the walls to allow for mowing and maintenance. Brick institutional buildings frame the scene on the left and right, while evenly spaced light poles line the paths and emphasize the ordered layout of the campus walking paths. 1993. Unidentified, photographer. (See p17054-p17059)(NA4800.)
