Color photograph of a bas-relief panel depicting a single Greek figure with extended arms, positioned against a red brick wall. The photograph presents one of four panels from "The Dance of the Muses" by sculptor Carole Hanson, created in 1990 and installed at Wells High School in Wells, Maine. This cast stone and Portland cement panel features a Greek dancer, shown in profile with arms outstretched and head turned to the side, wearing a flowing robe and a headband with trailing ends. The figure appears to be captured in motion as part of a series illustrating different dance postures, and the panel is mounted directly onto the building’s brick exterior. 1993. Save Outdoor Sculpture! (SOS!) (1990-1995) was a nationwide survey that ran from 1990-1995 documenting America’s outdoor sculpture. Established in 1990, SOS! helped educate local communities about America’s endangered sculptural heritage. The Maine Arts Commission was one of 106 organizations to participate in this survey.
