Description
Color photograph of a white marble relief sculpture showing three human figures in flowing poses set into the brick facade of a building. The image shows "The Dream of Happiness," a 1988 relief sculpture by Carole Hanson installed on the exterior of the Augusta Mental Health Institute in Augusta, Maine. The work, carved in Vermont marble, is set within a triangular brick gable and depicts three simplified, stylized human figures in low relief. Two reclining figures face outward from each other, while a central standing or floating figure reaches upward toward a small dove form above, suggesting movement and aspiration. The figures are rendered with smooth, rounded contours and minimal detail, giving the piece a modern, stylized classical appearance. The white marble panel contrasts with the surrounding red brick, drawing attention to the sculpted scene. The sculpture is signed “Carole Hanson 1988” along the bottom left edge. 1993. Unidentified photographer. (See p16924-p16937, p16948-p16952)(NA4800.)
