Description

Black and white photograph of the Thomas Brackett Reed monument, by Burr C. Miller, on the Western Promenade in Portland, showing a close-up view of a standing figure atop a decorated stone pedestal. This photograph features a detailed, low-angle perspective of the Thomas Brackett Reed monument, dedicated in 1910. Reed was a prominent and influential Maine politician once serving as the 32nd Speaker of the House of Representatives in Washington, D.C. The bronze statue portrays Reed in a formal suit and long overcoat. The sculpture presents Reed in a dignified, upright stance on a substantial granite pedestal, which is adorned with a carved ornamental band around its upper edge. The monument is an outdoor public memorial. 1994. Jill Linzee, photograph. (See NA4800.)
