Description

Black and white photograph of the bronze dedication plaque on the Stanley T. Pullen Memorial Fountain on Federal Street, Portland, Maine. This photograph shows a close-up view of the bronze dedication plaque mounted on the fountain, which sits on Federal Street in Portland, Maine. The granite fountain was installed ca. 1910-1917, as a fountain and horse trough, designed by George Burnham of Portland, Maine, and made by the New Hampshire Granite Company. The scene is centered on the plaque, with the text clearly readable and no extraneous background visible. The plaque reads: "IN MEMORY OF / STANLEY THOMAS PULLEN / PRESIDENT OF MAINE STATE SOCIETY / FOR THE PROTECTION OF ANIMALS / 1891—1910 / 'SWEET MERCY IS NOBILITY'S TRUE BADGE'". 1998-1999. Jill Linzee, photograph. (See NA4800.)
