Black and white photograph of the sculpture, “Fire Chariot,” 1990, by H. G. Brack, constructed from two large iron wagon wheels and assorted industrial components, set in a grassy field. This photograph shows a sculpture made by joining two tall wagon wheels on either side of a narrow, central axle. Various metal objects are attached to the wheels and the axle, including a small boat anchor, a single spit fork holding a small cast iron kettle, and a cylindrical device. The entire structure rests on a stone base, and it stands in the middle of an area with long grass and wild plants. The setting is outdoors with trees visible in the background, giving context to the sculpture’s mechanical and agricultural references. Geronimo Sculpture Garden, located in Hulls Cove, Maine. Save Outdoor Sculpture! (SOS!) (1990-1995) was a nationwide survey that ran from 1990-1995 documenting America’s outdoor sculpture. Established in 1990, SOS! helped educate local communities about America’s endangered sculptural heritage. The Maine Arts Commission was one of 106 organizations to participate in this survey.
