Description
Chocolate or brown print photograph of the 1905 Smart & Dearborn woods crew. Nine men pose in two rows. The front row are seated on a felled log on the ground. The back row sits or leans on a felled tree bearing the Smart & Dearborn log mark sequence of a diamond, notch, diamond, notch, diamond (<> | <> | <> ) which would have been registered with the log booms downstream. The setting is in a clearing in the woods during the winter. The men wear layers of dark-colored sweaters and coats. Four of the men wear over-sized safety pins. One man seated in the front row mugs at the camera as he eats beans off a knife. A sled with a wooden pail and tin plates and cups left from the lunch. 1905, Seboeis, Maine. See NAFOH 2462.
