Abstract

The Official Race Program for the Shapleigh-Acton Fair for Tuesday, August 20, 1940. The cover of the eight-page program includes a list of the officers of the Union Park Trotting Association, Inc., the body overseeing the event. Officers include the Association President W. R. Wilson; Vice President Ralph Sanborn; Treasurer Herman Allen; Secretary Fred Young; and Race Secretary J. Melvin Wescot. Also listed on the program cover are the names of the race Starter, Warren Woods; State Steward, Walter Gibbons; and Director of Mutuels, Frank Witman.

The program includes handwritten notes by photographer Guy Kendall regarding changes in the race lineups as well as finishing times. Kendall notes that Calumet DuBague out of Old Town Hill Farm in Newbury, Massachusetts, established a new track record for pacing in the 2.08 Bar Pace, clearing the line in a time of 2.07 1/2.
