Abstract/ Summary

Tuesday, November 4, 2025, is Election Day here in Maine! While we’re not casting ballots for president or Congress this year, that doesn’t mean this election isn’t important—in fact, it’s critical.

This year’s ballot includes a statewide referendum on proposed changes to election procedures. The proposed changes would include requiring photo identification for both in-person and absentee voting and changes to absentee ballot and drop box rules, along with other adjustments to state election laws. This referendum offers voters the opportunity to weigh in on how elections are conducted in the state.
