Abstract/ Summary

The University of Maine softball team will be looking to rebound from a 17-23-1 season of a year ago. The Black Bears are poised to make a run at the conference title this season and improve on its fifth place finish last year (7-7). UMaine advanced into the league tournament as the fifth seed in 1996 falling to Vermont, 5-4, and Drexel, 7-6, in its first two games. Former Black Bear Kelly Dow was named alltoumment. Dow placed ninth in the league in hitting, batting an impressive .336 while junior Michelle Puls was right behind in tenth with a .331 average. UMaine finished fifth in the conference in hitting with a .246 batting average.
