Abstract/ Summary

Maine will again face a difficult schedule. It begins with their annual two-week spring trip to Florida that includes tournaments at the University of South Florida and Florida State. The Bears then embark on a six-week New England schedule that will be played primarily on the road. The Bears will feel the loss of several key players: pitcher Lynn Hearty (18-8, 1.42 ERA), first baseman Michelle Duprey (.327), second baseman Denise Boutin (.314), third baseman Sue Goulet (.369), shortstop Asa Brown, and outfielder Kerrie Higgins. Yet, despite the losses and the tough schedule ahead, the Bears hope to have another good season. Returning starters Stacey Caron (.343,47 hits) and Tina Ouellette (.234,34 runs scored), are expected to lead the fielding corps, while Kim Thibeau (11-8) heads up the Bears’ pitching staff. New recruits Jocelyn Kondrotas (third base), and Lori (pitcher) and Cindy Methot (shortstop) will bolster the roster of seasoned veterans. Several walk-ons will add depth to what is expected to be another strong Maine squad.
