Abstract/ Summary

For 15 weeks last season, the University of Maine proved it deserved the pre-season accolades as best in the nation. But following a 3-2 loss to Michigan State at the East Regional in Providence, Maine's hopes for its first national championship were dashed.

Enter 1992-93.

In what is supposed to be a rebuilding year, head coach Shawn Walsh will need to find replacements for 1992 Hobey Baker Award winner Scott Pellerin and three time All-American Jean-Yves Roy, who opted to forgo his senior season and sign with the New York Rangers. Gone, too, are defenseman Tony Link, two-year captains Mike Barkley and Martin Robitaille, Brian Downey, who scored 48 goals and added 66 assists in his final two years at Maine, and grinders Randy Olson, Steve Tepper and Steve Widmeyer.
