Abstract/ Summary

One look at the credentials of the 1986-87 Maine hockey team gives you the impression that this is a program on the rise. Only a handful of NCAA teams can boast having 10 NHL draft picks on their roster, seven of which have been selected in the last two drafts.

The nucleus of the 1986-87 Black Bears is made up of underclassmen, as 19 players on the 28-man roster have yet to reach their junior year. "We are in the situation now where our predominant classes will be the freshmen and sophomores," says head coach Shawn Walsh.

Walsh, now in his third year with Maine, has put together this Block Bear team with three successive strong recruiting years. Many experts rate his last two recruiting classes among the best in the country.
