Abstract/ Summary
Since 1983-84 when Peter Gavett took over as women's basketball coach, the team has undergone many new changes. With the formation of the new Eastern Collegiate Athletic Conference (ECAC) Seaboard Conference, Maine will be competing against Boston University, University of New Hampshire, Northeastern University, the University of Vermont, Hartford and Brooklyn College on a regular basis for a league championship. Two to four more teams may be added in the next year to give Maine a highly competitive Division I conference. In addition to the conference, Maine has upgraded its schedule to include such nationally ranked teams on the East Coast as the University of Virginia, which last year finished first in the Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC).
