Abstract/ Summary

The veterans will lead the Black Bears in 1983-84 and there are quite a few of them. Returning this season are four starters from last year’s club that went 12-14 and lost a quarter final North Atlantic Conference playoff game to Niagara in double overtime. The returning starters include Jeff Cross, 6-10 and 248 pounds, who was named NAC Player of the Year in 1982-83. Cross, who averaged 19.2 points per game and 11.9 rebounds, will operate out of the pivot and will be joined by 6-6 forward Paul Cook, 6-5 guard/forward Jeff Sturgeon and 6-3 guard Jeff Wheeler. Other returnees with considerable experience are swingman Jeff Topliff and guard Kevin Green.
