Description

Scan from a black and white photo of Fernald Hall. The first building erected on campus in 1870. Bricks used for construction were made on the campus. At first called Chemical Hall. In 1896 named changed to honor Merritt C. Fernald, first Professor and second President of the University. It housed laboratories for chemistry and physics.
