Abstract/ Summary

This program records the Baccalaureate Exercises held on Sunday, June 1, 1952, for the graduating class of Washington State Normal School in Machias, Maine, now the University of Maine at Machias. The service featured a piano prelude by Dr. E. Marion Dorward, hymns such as “Come, Thou Almighty King” and “Faith of Our Fathers,” scripture readings, and musical performances by the Glee Clubs. Rev. Roy M. Trafton delivered the address. The event reflects the religious and musical traditions that were part of mid-century teacher education ceremonies in rural Maine. This document serves as a historical record of early higher education practices in Washington County.
