Description
An illustration in the publication The Female Volunteer; or the Life, and Wonderful Adventures of Miss Eliza Allen, a Young Lady of Eastport, Maine. The caption under the illustration reads: "The officer replied, that if I was willing to enlist, and would give him my word that I was clear of disease and able to perform duty, he would muster me in without any formal examination. I readily complied, and was regularly invested with the paraphernalia of the soldier."
