Description
An image scanned from a black and white photograph of actors portraying the characters Dyke and Roanoke in James A. Herne's 1886 play The Minute Men. While Herne is often credited as being the first American playwright to incorporate dramatic realism, the influence of 19th century melodrama seems evident in the staging of this photograph.
