Abstract/ Summary
Natural regeneration is arguably the most important aspect of any silvicultural system and is critical to ensuring long-term sustainability of a managed forest. The article emphasizes understanding natural processes and employing knowledge of silvics – the study of life history and ecological characteristics of forest trees- to favor desired species during forest renewal. Various natural regeneration methods are defined by how new trees establish, including seed dispersal and stored regeneration, such as advance seedlings and saplings. Creating ideal microsites with partial shade and access to soil moisture is crucial for successful germination and establishment.
