"At the suggestion of Professor James S. Stevens, and under his supervision, I undertook to apply interference methods of measurement to an experimental determination of Young's modulus for copper, brass, and steel. The metals were in the form of bars, 66 cm x 1 cm x 0.5 cm (approximate dimensions).
