Description
Black and white photograph of a tall metal weather vane sculpture on a cylindrical base standing in front of a school building and open playing fields. The photograph shows “Wind World,” a sculpture by Roger L. Majorowicz at Westbrook High School, Westbrook, Maine, rising from a concrete base set in a grassy area near a paved drive. At the bottom, a polished stainless steel cylinder sits on a broad circular bench-like drum, forming the vertical support for the rest of the work. Above this column, a large spherical globe decorated with swirling patterns is cradled in stylized cloud forms, and a set of compass points labeled N, S, E, and W projects outward on slender arms to indicate direction. At the top, an elongated weather vane arrow carries a small two-dimensional replica of the historic Fort Fairfield along its spine, while a curved arch and circular disc balance the composition and complete the layered image of earth, sky, and wind. In the background, the school building, scattered trees, and outdoor lighting suggest a spacious campus setting. 1994. Unidentified, photographer. (See p16873-p16875, p17064-p17076)(NA4800.)
