Description

Black and white photograph taken directly facing a bronze statue of Hannibal Hamlin, by Charles Eugene Tefft, 1927, located on Norumbega Mall, also known as Kenduskeag Parkway, Bangor, Maine. The sculpture stands atop a large, square granite base that includes a narrow bench and small garden plot for seasonal plantings. Hamlin is depicted as an older man standing erect in formal clothing with a calf-length cape draped over his shoulders, a buttoned suit and vest, and a bow tie. His proper right hand grips a cane that extends straight down toward the base, while his proper left hand holds a hat at his side. The granite pedestal is inscribed, "HANNIBAL HAMLIN/STATEMAN DIPLOMAT/CITIZEN OF BANGOR." The statue is seen against a clear sky, with 99 Franklin Street visible in the distance. May 1995. Abbe Levin, photographer. (See p17140-p17150)(NA4800.)
