Description
Black and white photograph of three abstract steel sculptures aligned on circular concrete bases in a grassy field, with the two tall forms closely overlapping and the smaller circular form partly visible between them. The photograph shows “Piston,” by Walter Easton, 1983, a sculpture made of two large, upright steel elements and a smaller circular element, all anchored on separate round concrete pads at Northern Maine Technical College in Presque Isle, Maine. In this view, the tall pieces stand close together so their profiles overlap, each featuring a broad lower section that narrows into a vertical shaft and ends in a T-shaped crossbar at the top, with small rounded protrusions and notched edges suggesting mechanical parts. Near the center a dark, split metal disc mounted on a post emerges between the two larger forms. From this angle, the three elements begin to merge visually into a simplified silhouette of an internal combustion engine piston, even as their individual shapes remain distinct against the open campus landscape and distant buildings. 1994. Unidentified, photographer. (See p17047-p17053)(NA4800.)
