Description

Black and white photograph of a granite Civil War monument in front of the Vienna Town House, Vienna, Maine. This photograph provides a view of a granite monument topped by a sculpted figure of a Union soldier dressed in a long coat and holding a rifle upright. The square pedestal bears the principal inscription: “Dedicated / To the Memory of / The Defenders / Of Our Flag / 1861-1865.” The monument is set against the white siding and window shutters of the Vienna Town House. It was a gift of Paul Trask and was erected in 1983 to honor local Civil War veterans. Wild grass and small plants grow around the base, indicating a rural setting. Undated. Unidentified photographer. (See p16858-p16861)(NA4800.)
