Description
Black and white photograph of Portland City Hall, Congress Street, Portland, Maine, showing the building’s clock tower and upper stories with a clear sky in the background. Portland City Hall was designed by the New York City firm Carrère and Hastings in 1909. The view focuses on the ornate clock tower, featuring columns and a domed roof with a weather vane featuring a golden, 15th Century sailing ship. The building's façade is constructed of stone with rectangular windows, and the clock tower rises prominently above the roofline, displaying clock faces on each side. The lower roof section and adjacent walls with additional windows are also visible, emphasizing the building’s size and grandeur. City Hall is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. 1994. Jill Linzee, photograph. (See NA4800.)
