Description

Black and white photograph of “Jack Plane,” by Sune Noreen, 1990. An over-sized jackplane is hung, elevated between two wooden poles. Seven holes line one side of the piece that functions as a bird feeder. The sculpture is separated from the viewer by a simple split-rail wooden fence marking the boundary of the area. Dense grasses, shrubs, and a mix of leafless and evergreen trees fill the background. Geronimo Sculpture Garden, located in Hulls Cove, Maine. Save Outdoor Sculpture! (SOS!) (1990-1995) was a nationwide survey that ran from 1990-1995 documenting America’s outdoor sculpture. Established in 1990, SOS! helped educate local communities about America’s endangered sculptural heritage. The Maine Arts Commission was one of 106 organizations to participate in this survey.
