Description
Chocolate or brown photo print of members of the Smart and Dearborn families work around an outdoor cooking fire. At the far left, John D. Smart sits on a sawhorse with his daughter, Lila Smart wears a child's dress, hat, and high-button shoes. Seated on the ground, Joseph Emery Smart, Jr. is holding a cast iron frying pan while Lillian Dearborn uses a wooden stick to adjust the food over the heat. Cora Smart stands in the background, holding a coffee pot. The face of George Hopkins is only just visible through the smoke, over Cora's left shoulder. To the right of the fire, Emma Dearborn is leaning over, lifting a square metal pan while Carry Royal Smart kneels beside the fire, stirring something in a cast iron pot. The women are dressed in dark, puff-sleeve blouses. Cora Smart and Lillian Dearborn both wear skirts that are mid-shin length rather than ground length. undated, Late 19th-Early 20th Century.
