Description
Black and white portrait of Gertrude Brown McMullan Smart, daughter of John and Alice (Hammond) Brown. She married Wallace McMullen, later opening the McMullen Doughnut Shop in Old Town. Following the death of her first husband, Gertrude married Joseph Emery Smart. Gertrude wears a fitted, white blouse that features a high neck, pin-tucking, and ribbons. She wears her hair in a Gibson Girl-style pompadour ornamented with a white ribbon. She has large, dark eyes and a somber expression. The gray, cardboard frame is embossed, "J. F. Gerrity & Co. Bangor, ME." undated, Late 19th-Early 20th Century. See NAFOH 2462.
