Baskets of the Dawnland People
Joseph A. Nicholas
"One of the oldest and finest of the Indian crafts is basket making. Each tribe of the Northeast has a preferred pattern or design which, like their language, distinguishes them from other tribes."
Baskets of the Dawnland People, authored by Joseph A. "Cozy" Nicholas (Passamaquoddy) was revised and updated in 2008 by poet and artist, Stephanie Francis (Passamaquoddy) and Scott Francis (Passamaquoddy) with assistance from Donald Soctomah (Passamaquoddy) of the Tribal Historic Preservation Office. The booklet documents Wabanaki basketmaking practices through text and historical images that capture both makers and basket forms.
