Description
This black and white photograph marks the first time Guy Kendall has photographed a race finish from a vantage point above track level, showing the full field of horses unobstructed as they approach the finish line. The camera angle also enhances perception of the size of the crowd of spectators standing along the rail to watch the race.
This finish line action photo is of the first heat of the Handicap Trot and Pace at the Topsham Fair hosted by the Sagadahoc Agricultural Society, Topsham, Maine, Friday, October 13, 1933. Crossing the finish line first is Rhineworthy driven by Chappelle followed by Peter Magnus in second, Donnelly up; Gwendolyn Aubrey in third, Betty Curtis in fourth, and Sassie Marie rounding out the field in fifth.
