Description
Black and white photo of the finish of the 2.16 Class Trot and Pace at the September 1933 Cumberland Farmers' Club Agricultural Fair races, Cumberland, Maine. Though the field included four entries, it was really a two-horse race and Gwendolyn Aubrey (left) and Donna Volo Peter (right) finished in first and second place in four heats before a fifth heat run-off decided the contest with Donna Volo Peter finishing on top, claiming the $120 purse. Note how photographer Guy Kendall captured the two trotters in mid-stride with all hooves off the ground. Kendall's signature appears in the lower right corner of the photo.
