Description

Sepia tone photograph of bay gelding Jack Hardy, owner/driver Ralph Sturgis up, finishing second behind Captain Tell, a black stallion driven by C. T. Burns in a heat of the 2.22 Trot at the Western Maine Agricultural Exposition, Gorham, Maine, August 1932. The finish line action photo captures an exchange of looks between the two drivers as they approach the finish line.

Also seen in the background, an upright piano and musicians from Hanson's Orchestra who provided a musical performance during the afternoon events. The race program states it was the Centennial Year of the annual agricultural fair. The photo is mounted inside the race program.
