Black and white action photograph of the finish of the first race of Monday, August 12, 1940 at Skowhegan Fair Grounds in Skowhegan, Maine. Bay stallion Arch Hanover wearing head number six, E. Ralson up took the first place finish on all three heats of the contest. Placing in second of the first heat is bay gelding Lottery wearing head number one, F. Safford up. Note the fair display located along the outside rail that includes a working water wheel.
