Description
Black and white portrait of gray stallion, pacer Lew Mac whose full name was Lew MacKinney. The portrait was taken near the sheds at the Skowhegan Fairgrounds on August 14, 1940, in Skowhegan, Maine, when Lew Mac--out of the Sullivan & Mawhinney stables of Machias, Maine--was slated to compete in the Classified Pace. Lew Mac's halter and lead rope are held by an unidentified man--likely one of the stable grooms--dressed in "work clothes," wearing a hat and smoking a pipe.
