Black and white action photograph of the field of horses approaching the finish line at Bass Park, Bangor, Maine on Tuesday, July 30, 1940. Brown stallion Sam Hanover, Avery up, finished in first place with a time of 2.14 1/4. Crossing the line in second place is bay gelding Dock Volo. Bay gelding Nelson Glow, Rodney up, showed in third place. Brown mare Louise Scott, Pratt up, showed in fourth place. Note the change of drivers listing Roullard and Chappelle can be seen on the portable tote board in the background. Also shown in the background is a pole supporting large loud speakers that were part of the newly installed, high-fidelity sound system from The Music Box, Inc., in Wellesley, Massachusetts.
