Black and white photo of black gelding, Caruso wearing number three in the Free for All race at Franklin Park, Farmington, Maine. Caruso, driven by a young Pierce Chappelle, took the race in three straight heats at the Franklin County Agricultural Society Cattle Show and Fair on Sept. 22, 1927 setting a track record time of 2.09 1/2. Chappelle and Caruso went on to win a $1000 purse in Brockton, Massachusetts on Oct. 8, 1927 (Lewiston Daily Sun, Oct. 8, 1927)
