Description

Black and white action photograph of the finish of the first race of the Daily Double at the Friday, August 4, 1939 Little Grand Circuit Meet of Cumberland held at the Cumberland County Fair Grounds, West Cumberland, Maine. The race was one of only three held at this event before rain caused the balance of the card to be cancelled. Bay gelding Lottery, driven by Pierce Chappelle took the first heat of the 2.11 Bar Trot in 2.10 follow by brown gelding, Calumet Bassett in second and brown gelding Blarney in third. Photographer Guy Kendall noted in the race program that he hit the Daily Double betting on Lottery in the first race and Top Hat in the second, yielding him $25.40 in winnings.
