Sepia tone photograph of the finish of the First Half of the Daily Double on Saturday, July 1, 1939, at Gorham Fair, Narragansett Park, Gorham, Maine. Brown gelding, Hal Bee Laurel wearing head number five (far right, wearing white shadow roll), Carter up, claimed the first place finish with a time of 2.12 3/4 in the slow 2.07 pace. Brown mare, Altamaha, Safford up, finished in second place. Bay stallion, San Hanover, Pratt up showed in third.
