Abstract
The official race program for the Tuesday, July 30, 1940 of "The New Bangor Fair" at Bass Park. The cover of the program, designed by Frank R. Witman, director of Mutuels, features a portrait of the Standardbred stallion, Afterglow. The cover also includes the names of race officials including Harry McKenney of Wakefield, Massachusetts, acting as the starter; Dr. J. A. Stevens of Dover, New Hampshire, and J. O. Whitemore of Bangor, the race judges. Howard Small of Richmond and John McKernan of Bangor served as race timers.
Fair Officials listed on the cover include President William H. Hinman; Treasurer, J. Lynn Foss; Secretary, Jack Moran; Race Secretary, John R. Dyer; Assistant Race Secretary Chester K. Bishop; and Director of Mutuels Frank R. Whitman. In addition to the fields of horses for each race for the day, the program includes display ads from local Bangor and Brewer businesses including the Penobscot Exchange Hotel, featuring a modern cocktail lounge, and The Original Mellorose Ice Cream parlour.
The program includes Guy Kendall's notes on changes in the race lineups, including the finish times. Kendall also noted the amounts of bets he placed and his winnings on each race.
