Abstract
The official race program for the Thursday, July 14, 1938 Summer Race Meet at the Maine State Fair Grounds race track on King Street, Lewiston, Maine. Unlike the usual tri-paneled, brochure fold, the program is printed, double-sided on 11 x 17 stock that was trimmed to a non-standard 11 x 14 sheet, then scored and folded into a 14-inch long brochure.
The program includes the fields of horses for a number of Wednesday, July 13 races identified as "Con't." The program also includes a list of Thursday, July 14 races, the names of race day officers including the chair of the Maine Racing Commission. Photographer Guy Kendall made notations in the program indicating changes in the field of horses, time results of races, and other finish results. Kendall noted the amount of his bets in the upper left corner of each race card and his winnings in the upper right corner. For the second time in the 1938 season, Kendall indicates he hit the daily double, winning a total of $16.60.
