Abstract

This thesis comprehensively analyzes the Holocaust Memorials within the United States, focusing on the timeline, design, and location of these memorials across the nation. It critically examines the involvement of survivors in shaping these memorials along with non-survivor based organizations. This paper also explores the multifaceted nature of the Holocaust memorials in the U.S. building categories regarding design style, complexity, and site type. Holocaust memorialization in an intricate landscape that is unraveled within the thesis and compiled for evaluation and future research. It underscores the critical importance of these memorials in engaging future generations, fostering remembrance, and promoting human rights. Through detailed examination of a select few memorials, this thesis illuminates the delicate balance between honoring the past and educating the future.
