Abstract

This hybrid manuscript is an attempt to think through critical ideas surrounding the body within a creative space. To that end, academic gestures are sometime adopted, though to serve purposes which become complicated by default of the genre. The main problem taken up throughout this project is the body: how to talk about it, how to engage the body through language and vice versa. The author uses a variety of procedures including poems, note-taking, repetition, arguments, footnotes, and an extensive bibliography. The primary method is the poem, though framed consistently as “notes,” another gesture that complicates the genre(s) through which the project might be categorized. This results in an ambiguously creative space in which the language is at once poetic and argumentative, repetitious and contradictory.
