Abstract/ Summary

This chapter presents the geographic extent of the Acadian forest and depicts its age structure and composition based on the most recent data from the US Forest Service Forest Inventory and Analysis program. The loss of nearly two million acres of spruce-fir forest type between 1971 and 2018 in Maine is documented. The effect of harvesting on post-harvest stand age and residual stocking (basal area) is described for the most recent five-year period in Maine.
